About This Collection

Jim Crook Collection The items in the Jim Crook Collection tell the story of a respected San Juan Island pioneer. Jim Crook's family homesteaded English Camp in 1875 when Jim was one year old. Jim lived at English Camp until his death at age 93 caring for the land and people on it. Jim Crook’s spirit of ingenuity and resourcefulness show a way of life highly valued on the island. Items in the collection include photographs, newspaper clippings, letters, equipment, clothing, audio interviews, and video. About This Site

San Juan Island Heritage is a project of Washington Rural Heritage, a collection of historically significant materials residing in libraries, heritage institutions, and private collections throughout Washington State.  The collection includes photographs, documents, and artifacts which tell the stories of Washington's small and rural communities.

San Juan Island Library District

The San Juan Island Library District is located in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island approximately 90 miles north of Seattle. The Library is a learning center providing means for all to pursue independent and recreational interests, use information resources, and meet and interact in a public forum.

San Juan Historical Museum

The San Juan Historical Museum is located in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The Museum interprets the story of the peoples of San Juan Island for island residents and visitors. The Museum makes available historical data, information, and artifacts which illustrate the heritage of the island for enjoyment and education.
