Description	This postcard photograph depicts two fishermen beside a rushing creek or river, possibly the upper portion of the Cle Elum River, or the North Fork of the Teanaway River. It is a vision of life and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, the back of the postcard tells the tragedy of a suicide: "Dear Son, we are all well and feeling good. Harry Smith who was chief of the fire department killed hisself Thursday night. He was troubled about investments and patents which caused his death. From Mother." The card was addressed and sent to Anthony Savage in the 1910's. According to his own account given in Spawn of Coal Dust (pages 304-304), the Savage family came to America from Lithuania, and they lived in Roslyn from 1900 to about 1913, where his father worked for the coal mines. Anthony graduated from Roslyn High School in 1911, then attended the University of Washington. He went on to become, among other things, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington until 1934. In his account for the 1955 book, he writes "My wife, our children and I have returned for visits on a great number of occasions, and we count that summer lost when we do not get up to Lake Cle Elum for a day's outing. We all bear Roslyn in very happy remembrance and proudly claim it as a town in which we spent the bright days of our youth...we all feel Roslyn is a part of us."
